Nepal Telecom has announced the beginning of VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) service on 17 May, 2021. NT has announced the trial beginning of VoLTE service on the occasion of World Telecommunication & Information Society day. VoLTE will enhance the call quality as well as reduce the connection time.
The VoLTE service will be free of cost. With the announcement, NTC have also offered 100 minutes of free voice call in NTC SIM over VoLTE. But before knowing the process to get the free offer, first let’s understand something about the VoLTE service.
What is VoLTE?
VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is an IP-based data transmission technology. VoLTE technology delivers both call and data services at once over a 4G network.
That means you can make calls and access the internet through mobile data at the same time. If your phone supports dual SIM and dual VoLTE, you can receive a call on a SIM card even when the other SIM card is already on a call.
VoLTE also provides you with faster call connection time and higher quality calls. With VoLTE we can experience ultra-clear voice quality with reduced background noise. Conversations will sound more natural. As expected, both must have VoLTE enabled for higher quality voice and video calls.
What are the requirements for using VoLTE?
To enjoy VoLTE services, you must meet the following conditions
- You must need to have a VoLTE service available on mobile with the latest software updates.
- Own an NTC 4G SIM on a mobile device.
- The VoLTE voice calling feature has been enabled on your smartphone.
- The preferred network must be 4G/3G/2G or Auto.
- You must have access to Nepal Telecom’s 4G network coverage.
How To Activate VoLTE In NTC SIM?
To enable VoLTE in NTC SIM card:
- Dial *444# and select the second (2) option.
- Or dial *444*2# to directly enable VoLTE service in your NTC SIM.
Before you can enable VoLTE service in an NTC SIM card, you must have 4G enabled NTC SIM card.
How to activate 4G service in NTC SIM?
To enable 4g in your NTC SIM card, dial *444# and select the first option. Or dial *444*1#. If you are not able to activate 4G on your SIM card, it is probably due to an old SIM card that doesn’t support 4g. You can also upgrade the SIM card to 4g for free by visiting the nearest Nepal Telecom office.
How to get free voice calls in NTC SIM?
After activating VoLTE service on your SIM card and on the device dial *111# and select the option first or dial *111*1#.
By dialing this MMI code, you will shortly receive 100 minutes of free voice call on the NTC SIM card.
Why am I getting a Connection problem or invalid MMI code?
I mentioned earlier, that you must have enabled VoLTE in your SIM card as well as your device. And the status bar should look like the image below.
If you have not enabled VoLTE support on your device, it will show this error message.
How to enable VoLTE in mobile devices?
To enable VoLTE on your mobile device, go to Settings> Connections> Mobile Networks.
Then activate VoLTE service on your preferred card.
Note: Some new devices and software versions may not have a VoLTE setting. In such cases, VoLTE will be enabled by default, and no further action is required.
Do I need to activate a separate voice pack for the NTC VoLTE service?
No. It is just an additional service to enhance the quality of voice calls. Therefore, the existing plan also works with VoLTE.
