Nepal's Star Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane was accused of raping an under age girl.A case was going on against him in the District Court Kathmandu
In the last hearing in the Court, it is confirmed that the girl accusing him of raping her was faking her age and proved to be over 18.
But since the court has convicted him, he will be sentenced for imprisonment.
As per the court's order after the final hearing, the final decision of total punishment such as period of imprisonment and amount of penalty to be given will be decided in the next hearing.
He was accused of rape from more than one year ago.Kathmandu District Court had even sent him in jail for detention hearing.
He was later released on Bail after getting ordre from the Patan High Court allowing him to travel abroad for matches.
Since his punishment and imprisonment is yet to be decided, he is not in prison currently.
Sandeep Lamichhane will be able to file a petition for appeal or review of the decision of the district court in this regard.
However the chances of him being not convicted in this case is very low. Generally decision on such matter are not changed by higher level courts
Therefore, Sandeep may only be able to ask for shorter imprisonment period or lower the penalty amount. But if he is able to submit enough evidence, even high court may change the decision on this.
Sandeep is very good bowler. He has some insane records of wickets taking in very few innings and many more.
He is one of the youngest captain of any National Teams.In fact, he was the captain of Nepal before being accused of this case.
It is really heart breaking for Nepali Cricket fans for a loss of such a good player in the game.
From the rumors of the incident, many fans are still not ready to accept that it was a real criminal incident and accussing the victim as driven by interest
